How We Work

If you are seeking our investigation or expert assistance, please review the FAQ and fill out the contact form or email team@cryptoforensic.com. Once complete, an investigator will perform a preliminary assessment of your case. Besides your contact information, it’s critically important to include two things in your initial message to us:

N

Some background information, in your own words, of what happened and your reason for contacting us.

N

Any blockchain transaction data associated with the incident, if applicable, namely blockchain transaction hashes, amounts sent, cryptocurrency addresses, etc… Please make sure to include this in a copy & pasteable format (no screenshots).

The preliminary assessment generally includes the following:

N

Getting a basic understanding of the situation and major events that transpired.

N

Assessing whether or not an engagement is practical, worthwhile, and advisable for a prospective client.

N

Assessing prospective leads, approaches, and actions that should or could be taken during the course of an investigation, and trying to assess the amount of work that ought to be done as part of the scope of the investigation.

If we find an engagement to be advisable and worthwhile, the investigator will typically present the prospective client with an engagement offer, after which point if they wish to proceed an engagement letter will be drafted. We operate on a retainer basis, and the engagement offer will include a general estimate of costs to the extent possible and will include an upfront retainer. This retainer is refundable such that if during the course of an investigation, a client wishes to discontinue the engagement, they will be refunded the retainer less time and charges that have already been billed against the retainer.

Then our work begins – the specific actions we take and things we investigate and provide insight on will vary on a case-by-case basis.
